Barrie Boundary Expansion (Annexation)
The City of Barrie is currently updating its Official Plan to include newly annexed lands from Springwater and Oro-Medonte. These lands are being planned to support future growth, including new residential, community and employment areas.
A temporary Interim Control By-law is in place (until at least December 2026), which prevents new development while the City completes detailed land use and infrastructure planning for these lands.
The City has introduced policies that signal a desire to move development forward quickly once the Interim Control By-law is lifted. Once this occurs, there will likely be a surge in development applications, and property owners who have done the groundwork in advance will be in a stronger position to submit early, navigate the approvals process more efficiently, and avoid delays.
